Service Areas in Lake & Porter County

Local concrete help in The Region, town by town.

We connect homeowners in five communities across south and central Lake County and Porter County with independent local concrete contractors. These towns share the same freeze-thaw winters and road salt. Underfoot they differ: clay-heavy glacial till around Crown Point, Merrillville and Schererville, rolling moraine around Valparaiso, and sandier lake-plain ground in north Portage. Each town also has its own rules for driveways, curb cuts and public sidewalks. Each page below covers the local details, and the table shows which office to check with before work starts.

Who to call about concrete permits in each town

A good contractor normally pulls the permits, but it helps to know who's in charge. In general, work on your own lot is handled by the town's building or planning department. Anything that touches the street, curb, driveway apron or public sidewalk (the right-of-way) goes through engineering or the street department.

Outside these five towns?

Live near one of these towns, such as Cedar Lake, St. John, Dyer, Winfield, Hobart, Chesterton or Burns Harbor? Call anyway. If a contractor in our network covers your street, we’ll connect you. Unincorporated areas follow county rules rather than a town's, so ask the contractor which office applies.
